This is a podcast about God, faith, and real life. We share sermons from our weekly worship service. Occasionally, we share interviews and other conversations that help us explore what it means to follow Jesus. Kindred Church is an inclusive community that helps people take their next steps in response to God’s unconditional love. We’re particularly committed to the excluded, ignored, and questioning. Check us out, all are welcome!

Jesus Includes the Marginalized
Sunday Oct 02, 2022
Sunday Oct 02, 2022
Have you ever been told that you’re not welcome in church because of your demographic or your community? Have you ever been told that you’re outside of God’s love because of how you identify? Tragically, Christians have often been guilty of marginalizing and excluding entire social groups, sometimes citing certain verses of Scripture for justification. But as we’ll explore in today’s sermon, Jesus rejects this kind of exclusion and the weaponization of Scripture that empowers it. Instead, Jesus shows us a better way. Join us as we conclude our series, ‘Inclusive Like Jesus.’

Jesus Includes Women
Sunday Sep 25, 2022
Sunday Sep 25, 2022
At Kindred, we fully include women not only in the life of our church, but also in the leadership of our church. While some of us may take that for granted, others may have questions. After all, the majority of churches still place some degree of restriction on the roles women can fill. So why are we different? Are we neglecting the teaching of Scripture? Are we just going along with the culture? In today’s sermon, we’ll consider why we fully include women, why it is biblical, and why we’re better for it. Join us as we continue our series, ‘Inclusive Like Jesus.’

Jesus Includes Sinners
Sunday Sep 18, 2022
Sunday Sep 18, 2022
Sadly, churches have a reputation for excluding people with struggles, flaws, and failures (which breeds hypocrisy because we all have struggles, flaws, and failures). But in today’s sermon, we’re exploring how Jesus does the opposite: In shocking ways, Jesus includes people whose lives are messy, broken, and in need of healing….aka people like us. Join us as we continue our series, ‘Inclusive Like Jesus.’

Jesus Includes Skeptics
Sunday Sep 11, 2022
Sunday Sep 11, 2022
We use the word ‘inclusive’ a lot at Kindred because it’s central to our mission. But we sometimes get questions and we often get assumptions about what that word means to us. So that’s what we’re exploring in our new series, ‘Inclusive Like Jesus.’ Over the weeks ahead, we’ll look at 4 specific ways Jesus is inclusive and we’ll consider how we can follow his lead. In today’s sermon, we’re talking about the way Jesus includes people who are questioning, doubting, and even those who are deeply skeptical.

Healthy Rhythms of Personal Devotion
Sunday Sep 04, 2022
Sunday Sep 04, 2022
When Jesus calls us to follow, he doesn’t just mean we should connect with him at church on Sundays (though, as we’ve discussed in recent weeks, that is important). But Jesus calls us to walk with him daily. So how can we stay connected to God between Sundays as we’re busy with work, school, and family life? In this week’s sermon, we’re talking about how to cultivate healthy rhythms of personal devotion that can keep us connected to God daily, even on our most hectic of days.

The Problem With Doing Church Solo
Sunday Aug 28, 2022
Sunday Aug 28, 2022
Whether online or in-person, it’s never been easier to do church solo–without meaningfully connecting to other people. For busy people like us, the efficiency of doing church on our own can be appealing. But when we primarily do church solo, we miss the fullness of God’s intent for church and set ourselves up for spiritual struggles. In today’s sermon, we’ll talk about how to do church relationally and why that matters for each of us.

The Power of Putting Others First
Sunday Aug 21, 2022
Sunday Aug 21, 2022
We’re heading into a new season of busyness and stress, which can distract us from God if we’re not intentional. But one counterintuitive way that we can stay connected to God amid the ups and downs of life is by developing the habit of serving others. In today’s sermon, we’re exploring the power of service and why it’s such an important spiritual habit to establish in our lives.

Sunday Aug 14, 2022
Sunday Aug 14, 2022
As summer winds to an end and the new academic year looms,
most of us are about to begin a new season of busyness and stress. In the upcoming whirlwind of school, work, and life, it will be all too easy to get distracted from God…which will only make us feel even busier and more stressed. So how can we make sure we stay connected to God through all the things this new season will throw our way? In today’s sermon, we’ll find out.

The Problem With Lust
Sunday Aug 07, 2022
Sunday Aug 07, 2022
Sadly, the church has often created excessive guilt and shame about sex. So we may be tempted to roll our eyes at the suggestion that lust is a problem, much less a ‘sin.’ Our culture certainly isn’t worried about it. And yet, Jesus felt the need to give us a surprisingly strong warning against lust within his most famous sermon. So this week in worship, we’re looking at what Jesus has to say about lust, why it still matters today, and how it helps us. Don’t miss this final installment in our series on the 7 Deadly Sins.

Binge Less, Savor More
Sunday Jul 31, 2022
Sunday Jul 31, 2022
Sometimes in our ‘more is better’ culture, we forget that there can be too much of a good thing. Sometimes when we binge on the things we enjoy, we’re avoiding a deeper issue we need to confront. In today’s sermon, we’ll consider the spiritual implications of Gluttony as we continue our series on the 7 Deadly Sins.
