Research shows that the vast majority of us are either in a long-term romantic relationship or we’d like to be in one in the future. And of course, we all want relationships that are healthy and happy. But we have a tendency to look for relationship guidance in some pretty unhelpful places. So in today’s sermon, we’ll seek some divine perspective as we consider the original purpose of romantic relationships, why that matters, and the practical difference it can make in our lives.

Sooner or later, we all face painful seasons of life when we find ourselves asking God, “Why? Why is this happening? Why are You allowing this?” In some cases, we eventually get an answer. In other cases, we never do. Few of us would say that our lives look exactly the way we want them to (especially in this complicated season of the year!). So in today’s sermon we’ll consider the Christmas story through the eyes of someone who can definitely relate. And we’ll discover that it’s precisely in the difficult, messy imperfections that God’s love meets and transforms us.

For many of us, our experiences of joy tend to be pretty short lived. We might feel joy when something good happens to us. But before we know it, something bad comes along and wipes out whatever joy we might have been feeling. Just because we want something, that doesn’t mean we’re ready for it.
