We like to think that our money belongs to us because we applied ourselves, worked hard, and earned it. And that may be true. But according to Scripture, that’s not the whole truth. In today’s sermon, we’ll see that Jesus challenges us with a counter-cultural perspective about Who our money really belongs to. And we’ll explore the life-giving difference that perspective makes for our earning, our spending, and our hearts. Join us as we continue our series, “Jesus on Money.”

And yet, when push comes to shove, we often wind up putting our trust in money to provide us with the peace, affirmation, and fulfillment our hearts crave. That’s why Jesus warns us that money has a sneaky way of taking God’s place in our hearts. Money can be an uncomfortable subject. It’s understandable. Money affects our decisions, relationships, emotions, and sometimes even our self-esteem…often in ways that stress us out. Research suggests that the mere thought of our personal finances causes most of us to experience some degree of anxiety. So no wonder we don’t love talking about money in church. And yet, even though Jesus knows it makes us uncomfortable, he talks about money a lot. Like, a whole lot. So in today’s sermon, we’re simply asking: Why did Jesus talk about money so much? The answer may surprise you. Bring your discomfort and join us as we kick off our new series creatively titled, “Jesus on Money.”
