Curiosity Over Judgment
Sunday May 07, 2023
Sunday May 07, 2023
If we’re honest, we often take pleasure in judging others and our culture offers us plenty of opportunities to be judgmental. Sadly, even within our judgy culture, Christians are often known for being especially judgy. But in today’s sermon, we’ll see that Jesus calls his followers to be a lot less judgy and a lot more curious about the people around us. We’ll learn why judginess is especially toxic for Christians, what we miss when we’re being judgmental, and how we can be better. Join us as we continue our series, ‘Different.’

Less Control, More Trust
Sunday Apr 30, 2023
Sunday Apr 30, 2023
Most of us have at least one area of our life where we tend to be hyper-controlling, and some of us (not naming any names!) are full blown control freaks. We often assume that if we can just get enough control, we’ll finally have peace, security, and contentment. And yet, try as we might, we never seem to get enough control. In today’s sermon, we’ll see how Jesus frees us from our obsession with control so we can find the life God truly wants for us. Get ready to be challenged and join us as we continue our series, ‘Different.’

Others First
Sunday Apr 23, 2023
Sunday Apr 23, 2023
We live in an individualistic consumer culture that leads us to focus primarily on our own desires. The result is that we often treat the people around us as either instruments to be used or obstacles in our way. Is it any wonder that our society is lonelier than ever? In today’s sermon, we’ll see that Jesus calls us to a radically different way of treating ourselves and the people around us. It’s not normal or easy, but it’s transformational and life-giving. Join us as we continue our series, ‘Different.’ \

Not Normal
Sunday Apr 16, 2023
Sunday Apr 16, 2023
‘Normal’ isn’t working. All around us division, fear, and worry seem to be growing. We often find ourselves grinding through constant stress, discouragement, and emotional exhaustion. We need something different. In today’s sermon, we’ll discover that ‘different’ is exactly what Jesus calls us to be, for our own sake and for the sake of the world. Join us as we kick off a new sermon series exploring some practical ways Jesus calls us to ditch what’s normal, do what’s different, and live life the way God always intended. It’s not always easy and it’s rarely popular, but Lord knows we need ‘different’ and the world does too.

Beyond Hopeless
Sunday Apr 09, 2023
Sunday Apr 09, 2023
Feelings of hopelessness are on the rise in our society, and many of us know that feeling all too well. As we battle endlessly with our own personal struggles, and as we look at the state of the world around us, it can be hard to believe that things will ever truly get better. On the morning of the very first Easter, all the followers of Jesus were feeling the exact same way. But then something happened that changed their lives and that changed the world forever. In today’s sermon, we’ll talk about what happened, why it matters for each of us, and how it transforms every hopeless situation we could ever face. If you need hope, Easter is for you!

The God We Need
Sunday Apr 02, 2023
Sunday Apr 02, 2023
Today is ‘Palm Sunday’ and the first day of ‘Holy Week,’ our annual commemoration of the eventful days that culminated with Jesus’ death and resurrection. In today’s sermon, we’ll explore a powerful truth that marks Jesus’ journey to the cross: Jesus isn’t always the God we want, but Jesus is exactly the God we need. Join us as we conclude our series, ‘Creed.’
The Apostles’ Creed:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic [meaning ‘universal’] church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Right Way to be Wronged
Sunday Mar 26, 2023
Sunday Mar 26, 2023
On a daily basis, we get wronged. Whether it’s something minor, like a jerk cutting us off in traffic, or a more serious injustice, being wronged is an unavoidable part of life. The question is: How do we respond? Often, we instinctively react with hostility. That’s perfectly natural, but it’s also unhelpful. So in today’s sermon, we’ll explore the super-natural way God responds to being wronged and the super-power we have when we follow God’s lead. Join us as we continue our series, ‘Creed.’

On a Mission
Sunday Mar 19, 2023
Sunday Mar 19, 2023
What is church all about? Our consumer culture tells us church is all about ‘me’: my experience, my spiritual needs, and what I’m getting out of it. But who wants to be in a church full of people who are all about ‘me’?! That’s why Jesus challenges us to ditch that consumer mindset and embrace what church is truly about. In today’s sermon, we’ll explore Jesus’ vision for church and we’ll see how much better church can be when we do it the way Jesus intended. Join us as we continue our series, ‘Creed.’

Getting to Know the Spirit
Sunday Mar 12, 2023
Sunday Mar 12, 2023
If you spend much time at church, you’ll hear people referring to something called the ‘Holy Spirit.’ People at church often talk about ‘feeling the Spirit move,’ or the ‘feeling the presence of the Spirit.’ Sometimes church people talk about seeing the ‘Spirit at work’ in their life or a situation. But we don’t often pause to consider… What is the Spirit? Or who is the Spirit? Why should we care? And what difference does our belief in the Spirit make for our life and our faith? In today’s sermon, we’ll get an encouraging Holy Spirit crash course and we’ll discover how to recognize the Spirit’s work in each of our lives. Join us as we continue our series, ‘Creed.’

What God is Really Like
Sunday Mar 05, 2023
Sunday Mar 05, 2023
A growing number of Christians today are wrestling with the question: What is God really like? It’s understandable. For many of us, the God of all-encompassing love we were taught to sing about as kids seems quite different from the God our church taught us to believe in as adults. Is God merciful and compassionate? Is God judgmental and punitive? Both? How can we know? Should we just believe what feels good to us? What is God really like? In today’s sermon, we’ll look at one amazing Christian belief that we so often miss: God has already, decisively answered our question about what God is really like! The answer is surprisingly simple. And it’s extraordinarily good news. Join us for this second part of our series, ‘Creed.’
